Annapurna News.
We are here in Manang the gateway to Annapurna. Our height is 3540 mts. Today we did an acclimatisation exercise and climbed to 3800 mts. The trek so far is enjoyable an everyone is in good form and settling into the pace. Kay you wouldave loved the bridges especially the first one. We crossed a rickety bridge, not too stable with the glacier river torrenting underneath. The landscape up to Manang is fertile, passing rice paddi fields, corn, everything green and luscious and surrounded by snowcapped mountains. Scenery is something else. Tomorrow we start on our trek over the Thorung la Pass. Evenings get very cold. Sunday we had snow and I wasn't prepared for so went walking in the snow with my fleepersoce wrapped round my legs and whatever else was left in my bag on my person. Next day we were prepared and walked in a fairy christmas wonderland - fantastic. I hope all is well with you . I hope Diarmo is alright. Will try and email you again. Not great here = mouse keeps hopping. Good luck. Marguerita.
Sunny Knockmealdowns

Recent Galty Rescue
Letter from Eddie Hanrahan to 'Kilkenny People' Newspaper 15 Oct 2010:
"Dear Editor, I wish to thank members of the Tyndall Mountain Club who came to our assistance when our son fell & fractured his leg while ascending the Galtee MOuntains. Their help was fantastic as they had to carry him across difficult terrain to a road where we were able to get him to medical assistance quickly.
Yours, Eddie Hanrahan"

First Hike Plans
Dieter, who is leading this Sunday's hike has great plans for this inaugural hike of the new season:
There are 2 options, one is the wet one where we will go up the steam wherever possible and therefore get wet!!! The other would be that another group could follow up along the stream to the right, then head up to Crotty's and then do the Coumshingaun circuit, pop down to the lake and prepare a BBQ ( I will bring the disposable one and some kebabs and if others could bring sausages etc...).

A very fast time was posted by Mick Burke and Walter Keane who completed the 'walk' in 3hrs 40 mins.
Thanks to those who completed the Evaluation Forms - your comments will be taken into account for the future - apart from "ski lifts at either end and a railway line between" - but only because of environmental impact!!.

Gus Tobin Galty Walk
A gtreat day out on the Galtys. Thanks to all members who contributed of time and effort to make the day a resounding success. Also to the members who acted as 'catering staff' for end of walk refreshments.
The Foot pub, its management and staff, contributed greatly to the success of the day. Thanks heaps.
The revised finish route seems to have been an improvement.
Let us know what you think!!
